Plastic Free Chalenge - Create Task
This week, The book choices were the same and still about environment
The problem in this book is the plastic pollution.
Question 1. How did this problem occur?
It occurred by the thrown away plastic.
Question 2. Is this an easy problem to solve?
It won't be easy to solve because so much of it has been thrown away, there's even an island
made out of plastic, The island is six times the size of new zealand
Question 3. How can you help this situation?
You can help this situation by not using as much plastic,
recycling old plastic and buying less plastic covered food
The effects of plastic being poured into the ocean:
It creates “dead zones” meaning nothing can survive there
60 to 95 percent of the ocean is covered by plastic meaning that most marine mammals would eat the
plastic and die
Fish, Seabirds and Sea Turtles can become entangled in the plastic
If a seabird eats plastic it takes up room in their stomachs, which sometimes can lead to starvation.
It kills upto 1 million seabirds a year
Simple ways to stop usage of plastic:
Reduce your single use plastics
Recycle properly
Avoid products that use micro beads
Support organisations addressing the plastic pollution
Random facts about the plastic pollution:
5.25 trillion micro plastics are in the ocean
There is at least 269,000 tonnes of plastic is in the ocean
Plastic is 60 to 95 percent of marine debris
Everyday at least 8 million pieces of plastic find their way into the ocean
It is believed that more than 90 percent of birds and fish have plastic particles in their stomachs
Plastic pollution was first discovered in the late 1960's and early 1970's by scientists carrying out
plankton

Inland Taipan Snake - Information Report
Inland Taipan
Did you know that one drop of the inland taipans venom can kill 100 adults or 250 thousand mice?
Or that they don't have any environmental dangers? If you like snakes you still probably don't know
much about this snake because it's difficult to find facts about this snake.
Or that they don't have any environmental dangers? If you like snakes you still probably don't know

If you read this information report you can learn about the physical characteristics, habitat, what they
eat and the only natural predator of the inland taipan!
eat and the only natural predator of the inland taipan!
Physical characteristics
It's currently the third most poisonous snake because of its defensive physical characteristics
Some physical characteristics define the color of the inland taipans scales while camo-flashing the
snake into its habitat, for example that sometimes its scales can change color depending on the season.
On the more defensive side of things one drop of its venom can kill 100 adults or 250 thousand mice,
That's why it's the third most poisonous snake.

Habitat
It only lives in certain parts of Australia
The Habitat Would be the black soil plants in Queensland, south Australia and the northern territory,
It can also live in deep cracks and fissures in dry soil.

Sometimes in central Australia and the northeast corner of south Australia; Sometimes in new whales
and in rocky outcrops
and in rocky outcrops
What they eat
They only eat mammals
They eat lots of different animals but their main meals are usually long haired plague rats,
They also eat common house mice.
They also eat common house mice.
It takes a while to kill the prey because the venom takes 30 to 45 minutes to kill
The only predator of the inland taipan
The only predator the the inland taipan kill’s lots of other snakes as well
The king brown snake can kill a bunch of snakes including the inland taipan, They sometimes live in
similar places but wont fight all the time
similar places but wont fight all the time
In concussion The inland taipan isn't aggressive like the saw scaled viper, they don't like fighting
(most of the time), have powerful venom, live mainly in australia, only eat mammals and have only
one predator. What would you do if you met an inland taipan?

Elephant dung paper
This week the book choices were about the environment, I chose one about turning Elephant dung into paper because one of my friends suggested the book because she loves Elephants.
Here's the final product of my work.
Here's the final product of my work.
Elephant Dung Paper
By Heidi
The main problem that was solved was that to many trees were getting cut down to make paper, so people in Thailand and countries around that use Elephant Dung Paper as an alternative that also stops deforestation
Question 1. How did the problem occur?
It occurred because of trees getting cut down .
Question 2. Is this an easy problem to solve?
For me, I wouldn't be able to solve it but it seemed simple in the book .
Question 3. How can you solve the situation?
You can try to use less paper, recycle more and plant trees and other plants .
Effects of deforestation:
The nutrients in the soil is exposed to heat meaning ( Soil erosion destruction) .
When forests are destroyed water bodies and the water table are affected .
Climate change .
A loss of biodiversity ( Plant and animal life in the same habitat, and is usually considered to be important and desirable. )
There's no natural way to change carbon dioxide into oxygen in the atmosphere
Floods become more common
Soil erosion
Top soil gets blown away
Plagues and pestilence are more common because predators get removed from the environment
Droughts get more common
Native people get displaced from their environment and can no longer hunt and gather medicine and food
Loss or culture and tradition
Animals lose homes
The main causes of deforestation:
Natural causes like hurricanes, fires and floods
Humanoid reasons like making paper, collecting wood and creating space
Agricultural Activities
How to slow down the rate of deforestation:
Plant trees when you possibly can
Use less paper
Don't buy products containing palm oil
Buy certified wood products
Buy recycled products
Don't burn firewood excessively
Consume less meat
